Tim has lived in Tasmania all his life except for a couple of years travelling throughout Australia and Europe.
He began practice in the Huon in 1984 and for many years was part of the growth and success of what was then the largest and premier firm in the Huon Valley. In 2007, he established Tierney Law as his own practice with a three year plan to include practice in Hobart.
Tim has a general practice in commercial, property, Wills and Estates. He does not conduct litigation files.
He has a special interest in property matters. He has for over a decade been a member of the Property Law Committee of the Law Society of Tasmania. For several years he represented Tasmania on the Australian Property Law Group which is the Committee dealing with property law matters of the Law Council of Australia. The Law Council is Australia's peak legal industry body.
His most demanding projects for the Property Law Committee of the Law Society of Tasmania has been on two occasions to undertake the re-write and reformatting of the standard form of contract used throughout Tasmania.
He has held executive positions in the local business bodies of Huonville and the Huon Valley. He has been a Board Member of Huon Eldercare Inc, the aged care facility in the Huon Valley.
He has extensive experience in Wills and Estate Planning.
He enjoys writing and the preparation of precedent documents. His is a contributing author for conveyancing precedents for the Australia Encyclopaedia Reforms and Precedents. He contributed the Tasmanian article in an International Encyclopaedia on comparative legal systems.
He lives on the river at Port Huon in a heritage listed house which was the childhood dream of his wife and has been a passionate renovation project for two decades.
He and his wife, Claire, have two daughters.
