Peter Tierney grew up on the far North West Coast of Tasmania and is the older brother of Tim, principal of Tierney Law. Peter graduated from the University of Tasmania in 1973 with a Bachelor of Laws degree and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania and the High Court of Australia in 1975. After working in such diverse places as London and Smithton, Peter has spent his working life in Hobart. After several years with the Australian Legal Aid Office, Peter was a partner of Finlay Watchorn until the Hobart office of Finlay Watchorn was incorporated into Tierney Law.
Peter’s recent work has been in the following areas
- Wills, Probate and Estate Planning
- Family Law
- Estate and Will Litigation and Disputes
- Mortgage investing.
Peter is a past President of the City of Hobart Lions Club and past Secretary of the New Town Community Association Inc. He is involved in his local Church, and is interested in music and current affairs.
Retirement now beckons for Peter, he ceased practicing as a lawyer as of July 2018 . He now works part-time as a law clerk. He hopes to retire by the end of 2019
Peter is married to Milley and they share three adult children and four grandchildren. Peter is a long suffering St Kilda supporter.
